Job opportunities – Specialist Teaching Assistant

Level 1 Specialist Teaching Assistant (Level 2 for candidates with significant experience)

28.75 hours per week (8.45- 3.15pm)

An exciting opportunity has arisen within our newly built Enhanced Learning Provision which provides specialist teaching for 18 children with severe and specific speech and language disorders. We are looking for an experienced teaching assistant with a strong knowledge of SEN and experience of working in either a primary and/or Early Years setting.

Our Enhanced Learning Provision is an integral part of our school, providing specialist programmes of support for children from Reception through to Year 6 from across Croydon who have been diagnosed with a specific speech and language disorder. Pupils follow a specialist, personalised, programme which integrates therapy and assessment targets with work across the curriculum. Pupils have the opportunity to work within the provision and also spend a proportion of their time with their mainstream class. Most of the children join the provision with very limited speech and communication skills and it is highly rewarding to see many of these children successfully return to a mainstream setting after a period of time.

Applegarth Academy is part of the STEP Academy Trust (Striving Together for Excellence in Partnership) and continues on an exciting, fast-paced journey of school improvement. We are a Rights Respecting School, follow the International Primary Curriculum and put the children at the heart of all decision making. In joining the Enhanced Learning Provision, you will become part of our team of highly committed professionals working across the Academy and involved in the wider aspects of school life as well as those that are specific to the Enhanced Learning Provision.

Applegarth has excellent transport links, with the tram line into Croydon just a few minutes’ walk away. Central London and the outskirts of the M25 are then just a short train journey away. We are a 10 minute car journey from the centre of Croydon.

Visits are actively encouraged and you are welcome to contact us for an informal discussion about this post prior to application.
